Biologist in Langkawi

Okay, I hope these do expand when you click on them now. The locust (if it was?) in front of Clarissa was pretty awesome, especially considering how much it ate.

More evil monkeys, and to the batcave! Iwas really hoping for otters, but no luck so far...
Poor me, right?

Scenes around Langkawi

No real story here, just some nice pictures
(I thought anyway)

Langkawi, but really Thailand revisited

We had a fabulous, although long day when we journeyed to the Butang Islands for a snorkelling trip. It was paradise, and I'd go back in a moment and stay for longer! Here I met my eel, and saw lobsters and Christmas tree worms, etc.

The Canadian flag is in the back picture, as the person owning the dive shop we were at was from Calgary: Small world isn't it?

Langkawi with Doug

We had a lovely tour of the mangroves and surroundings, including the batcave! We found an almost empty beach at Tanjung Rhu, and really enjoyed the deep fried bannanas (I've always maintained that things are better deep fried!)

October 2005 - Taman Negara

Our second trip with Mike saw us off to the big National Park, Taman Negara.
This is the site of the infamous Monkey Mugging,
and where my bladder almost exploded on the journey there.

We also did the obligatory sightseeing at KLCC and the Petronas Twin Towers,
we were lucky and got a photo of the rare Triple Towers (see central picture)!

October, 2005 - Tioman

We've had many lovely times at Pulau Tioman, and this time we met Mike Totman there, and it was another lovely time.
Clarissa did bubble blowers and dove at Renggis, an amazing snorkelling/diving site.

We can't wait to do more snorkelling or diving!

Biologist in Thailand

Okay, I know I'm a little strange, but these are the things I thought were interesting on the plant and animal side, beyond the usual.

You can post or email for more info... Some are self explanitory...

One Day in Bangkok, Part II

I had to include a bit of the view from the river, and Clarissa is crazy about Mermaids, so here are my two Mermaids beside the river. The other photo is the Wat Arun and the King who built it, I managed to cut out all the crowds that surrounded it!

One morning in Bangkok, and the world?

We had one morning to see something of Bangkok, so we did the river tour and stopped at the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun).

We were lucky, as it was close to New Year's day, we also got to see a "Garden of Statues" and the Monks teaching... Awesome!

New Year's Eve, day 5

Saturday was cooking school for some, but for Miranda, my Father and I - it was Market day, and Boy, what a market!

That plate of delicacies is Forest food, a little out of focus unfortunately, but that's bug's for all the non-Thai's in the crowd!
Also pictured is the amazing concrete waterfall, courtesy of Mother Nature.
I won't forget scrambling up and down it with the children cavorting like mountain goats
(I'm afraid I was more of an old slow crab!).

From the mountains to Chiang Mai

We visited yet another waterfall on our way out of the park, and then back into Chiang Mai, and off to visit the local temple. I included a picture of a "song tau", with someone hanging off the back - Safety is not such a concern to people here!

Chiang Mai is in the center picture, I think we loved the city so much because it was cool and on a plain - just like Edmonton!

Second day in the mountains

Our morning started darn cold, less than 10 degrees Celcius, and beautiful! We journeyed to the summit of the tallest mountain in Thailand and visited the temples that were there, it was all amazing!

The Queen's temple is in purple, and the King's is black.
Our excellent hosts, Sandra, Jip, Matthew, Jean-Luc, Andrew and Nali took excellent care of us, and provided an unforgettable experience.

Thailand - To the mountains!

We took a wonderful trip to a National Park, Doi Inthanon.
Amazing waterfalls, the Royal Project, Pointsettia bushes and good times with great people, who could ask for more!

Life was wonderful, the air was cool (around 25 degrees Celcius) and the scenery amazing...

Missing photos of first post...

Well, here we are. I'm slowly getting the hang of the publishing business...
Practice makes perfect, or is it perfect practice... Oh never mind.

Thailand-Pictures day 1

Chiang Mai and the Elephant Camp

Here we are, First day in Thailand with the elephants! My Mom was in Heaven, but weren't we all - it was an amazing day with the rides on elephants and oxen carts, then a buffet lunch and a bamboo raft down the river! We then were out to dinner, and I included a couple pictures of the traditional Thai dancers. We lived two days in that one... Posted by Picasa

Trying to create a cheap, easy website!

Hi All,
With the newsletter about to go out and being long overdue to share photos, I'm going to try this and see how it goes! I've included photos of the Green Ghecko, our trusty, sturdy steed in a land of scary road experiences, and photos of inside and outside the house. Unfortunately no one was visiting at the time of the pictures, so it's somewhat messy. This should orient you to our house...

Okay, the photos are in another post. This is a bit more complicated than it first appeared...
